Tilney Smith & Williamson, the leading wealth management and professional services group which this week announced that it will re-brand to Evelyn Partners this summer, has announced the appointment of highly experienced business adviser John O’Callaghan as professional services Managing Partner – Ireland.

With a track record of growing businesses through excellent and client focused advisory, John joins Tilney Smith & Williamson from BDO where he has been a Partner since 2006. In his new role, John will lead the group’s top ten professional services team in Ireland and focus on growing it through organic growth, strategic hires and acquisitions.

Speaking about the appointment, Paul Wyse, who has led Tilney Smith & Williamson’s professional services business in Ireland for 20 years, said: “I am proud to have led Tilney Smith & Williamson’s professional services business in Ireland for the past 20 years and am delighted to welcome a business adviser of John’s calibre to lead the team into the next phase of our growth.

"The move will enable me to focus more directly on client servicing and developing new business opportunities for the firm in Ireland working with John and the wider team.”

Commenting on his appointment John O’Callaghan said: “Having set up my own firm in Australia and then built a very strong practice as a senior partner at BDO Ireland, I know first-hand the needs and expectations of ambitious and growth focused business leaders.

"Tilney Smith & Williamson has created a unique platform for business advisers at all stages in their careers to join a firm that has an unrivalled combination of financial strength, depth of expertise, and breadth of service offering. The next phase of our growth following the re-brand to Evelyn Partners in the summer will focus on strategic hires and both organic growth and acquisitions. This is an exciting opportunity for both clients and talented business advisers to join a progressive firm with a compelling and highly differentiated proposition for ambitious clients who want the best support to grow their businesses.

"With a highly talented team that has breadth and depth of expertise, Evelyn Partners will present clients with a unique proposition, and I am honoured to lead the business in Ireland.”

Susan Shaw, Chief Professional Services Director at Tilney Smith & Williamson commented: “I am delighted to welcome John to Tilney Smith & Williamson. He shares our mutual ambitions for the continued growth of the firm and I know his experience will be a great asset to our clients, our colleagues, and the business overall. I am also immensely grateful to Paul Wyse for his leadership and the wider contribution he has made to the firm over the years, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with him.”

John succeeds Paul Wyse, who led the professional services team in Ireland since 2003. Paul has been instrumental in the growth of the firm and in supporting the merger that brought Tilney together with Smith & Williamson. He will continue to head up the firm’s Advisory team in Dublin and, as part of the senior management team, he will support the firm’s continuous growth strategy.

Paul will continue his directorship roles with the group’s Irish subsidiary companies and Smith & Williamson Fund Administration Limited.

John’s appointment follows the recent appointment of Fiona Sweeney as Chief Executive Officer of Smith & Williamson Investment Management (Europe) Limited (SWE), the Dublin based subsidiary of Tilney Smith & Williamson, which is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland, and acts as the group’s European hub of operations, allowing it to provide practical, effective investment solutions and financial advice to clients in Ireland. SWE also has a full licence to operate across Europe under the EU’s MIFID regulations, serving the group’s clients across many countries.
