Over the weekend of 19th to 21st September, teams from financial planning group Tilney Bestinvest and KPMG/Cairn Energy will compete in the third annual Cumbrae Caper sailing race, in aid of Ocean Youth Trust Scotland.
The race, which spans three days, involves twelve staff on each team board identical Challenge 72ft racing yachts on a course spanning the Firth of Clyde. Competitors are required to take full charge of the yacht and live in close conditions during the challenge.
Funds raised from the race will go to Ocean Youth Trust Scotland, a charity which inspires positive change in young people through the challenge of adventure under sail.
Nick Fleming, Ocean Youth Trust Scotland’s CEO commented: “We are pleased to have both Tilney Bestinvest and KPMG returning with us for a third year taking part of our Cumbrae Caper Challenge. The money raised by the two teams will go a long way to enable us to inspire young people through adventure under sail. We are grateful for the continued support”
Paul Frame, Managing Director and Head of Tilney Bestinvest, Glasgow said: “Ocean Youth Trust is committed to the personal and social development of young people and we are pleased to show it our support. The crew are very much looking forward to the race - and retaining our title!”

Notes to editors:
Ocean Youth Trust Scotland is Scotland’s national sail training charity, based in Greenock, Scotland, and has been established since 1960. It takes approximately 600 young people to sea every year to experience adventure under sail and is a registered training centre for the Royal Yachting Association. It can offer SQA, Duke of Edinburgh and John Muir Award accredited voyages.
Ocean Youth Trust Scotland operate four sail training vessels; Alba Endeavour and Alba Explorer, two 72’ challenge yachts that have been around the world twice; one custom-built Oyster 70’, Alba Venturer, donated to us by our patrons Barbara and Curly Mills; and a Jeanneau 34’ for volunteer training purposes.
Our boats are staffed by an army of 300+ committed volunteers, including brain surgeons, rocket scientists, teachers and firefighters.
Sail training requires participants to confront many demanding challenges, both physical and emotional. It is an activity that inspires self-confidence and the acceptance of personal responsibility. It promotes an acceptance of others whatever their social or cultural backgrounds, and develops a willingness to take controlled risks. For most who undertake sail training, it is a positive life-changing experience.
Residential voyages aboard OYT Scotland’s fleet of yachts provide a uniquely powerful and extremely effective environment for the personal development of young people. Voyages are genuinely demanding and often unpredictable, requiring a high degree of interaction and teamwork and are also great fun!
Voyages can be booked via our website or by calling 01475 722 722
