Leading investment management and financial planning group Tilney Bestinvest welcomed four students from schools across Liverpool into their office in the iconic Royal Liver Building, as part of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment’s (CISI) second annual Investment Management Insight work experience week.

Running from the 4th to 8th July, the students undertook structured work placements that provided insight into the day-to-day business activity of the investment management industry. The students met professionals from all sections of the company and attended workshops which saw them develop key skills like networking, trading and ethical integrity to improve their future employability.

The culmination of the week was an event at Tilney Bestinvest’s grade-II listed offices held on the evening of Friday 8th, where 27 students gathered, all of whom had been undertaking work experience at various financial services firms around Liverpool, amongst a total attendance of nearly 70. Speaking at the event was author and Financial Times columnist Gillian Tett, who provided an insightful and thought-provoking presentation before awarding prizes to the outstanding students from the course of the week.

James Charlton, Tilney fund manager and President of the CISI Liverpool, Chester & North Wales branch said: “The work experience programme puts an emphasis on the important practical skills needed for a career in financial services. At Tilney Bestinvest, we are proud to be supporting the initiative and the development of the region’s next generation of talented investment professionals.

“As a committee member it never ceases to amaze me how passionate our members are about the education and development of young people and helping ensure the second annual Investment Management Insight Week was a resounding success. It is widely recognised that if you’re seeking a career in wealth management outside of London, then Liverpool is the place to be, and we are committed to the continued education, development and retention of the city’s brightest students.”
