Smith & Williamson, part of leading wealth management and professional services group Tilney Smith & Williamson, has announced the appointment of Tom Kellaway as Tax Director in its Employer Solutions team.

Tom joins from PwC where he spent over 10 years and worked as a Senior Manager in its Global Mobility Services team. At Smith & Williamson, Tom will be primarily responsible for driving the growth and development of the firm’s Global Mobility service offering, specifically the provision of tax advisory and compliance services to support employers with internationally-mobile workforces that operate across multiple jurisdictions.

Tom Shave, Head of London Tax at Smith & Williamson, commented: “Our Employer Solutions team has grown rapidly in the last 18 months, particularly as our clients respond to the changing world of work. Tom is our latest senior hire in the Employer Solutions team and brings with him a wealth of experience in the Global Mobility space. I’m delighted that he has chosen Smith & Williamson to pursue the next phase of his career and look forward to him advising our clients and driving further growth in the practice.”

Tom Kellaway added: “I was very impressed with Smith & Williamson’s ambitious growth plans and long-term vision for the business and am pleased to be joining at this very exciting time. The Employer Solutions market, covering Global Mobility, Employment Tax and Reward, is particularly buoyant and offers huge opportunities for growth.

“COVID-19 has had a profound effect on how and where we work. As we emerge from the pandemic, it is likely that we will see the gradual return of international business travel and also a longer- term shift towards more flexible and remote working arrangements, including on an international and cross border basis. Businesses will need to consider the implications of these arrangements, including the impact on tax, social security, payroll and employer reporting obligations, the structuring of reward and pension plans, as well as employment law, regulatory and immigration considerations. I am looking forward to working with clients to help them navigate these complexities and to manage the effective deployment of an internationally mobile workforce.”
