Already conquering a lifelong fear of heights in the I’m a Celebrity jungle, Babatúndé Aléshé has been winning big for his campmates – but what’s next for the comedian from London? Just before flying out to Australia, he sat down with TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher to talk all things life goals and ambitions.
With the rising star already hitting new highs in British comedy, Babatúndé has achieved so much and still has plenty planned for his future. But, despite his success he admits he could be in an even better place now, had he received financial advice in the early stages of his career. He reveals all on Bestinvest’s brand new podcast, Give Us Your Goals.
Driven by a passion to make people laugh, something that has become quite clear to campmates Mike Tindall and Jill Scott, Babatúndé’s lifelong ambition has always been to “become the next Eddie Murphy”. Babatúndé is also focused on his future ambitions and is now reflecting on his career to date, quizzing his campmates on their sporting careers and perhaps taking inspiration for his own.
The 36-year-old admits that as a dedicated husband and father, he can take or leave the limelight. He says, “fame is what it is, it comes and goes”. Like 51.9% of 35-44 year olds according to latest research by online investment and coaching platform, Bestinvest*, his main goal is to enjoy quality time with his family. He adds, “...my goal is just to keep this good thing [with them] going”. For Babatúndé, this also means pursuing the goal he shares with his wife, of opening a vineyard in Portugal.
Nonetheless, for the I’m a Celebrity star “true happiness is the key”, which according to the Bestinvest study is a common goal amongst 59.9% of his 35–44-year-old peers.
Growing up in a single parent family in a deprived part of Tottenham, North London, Babatúndé has forged a successful career through hard work and dedication, but he wasn’t advised on the value of money management until later in life.
Bestinvest’s data shows that less than a fifth of UK citizens are planning to save for their retirement, with many (like Babatúndé) striving to achieve big goals without drawing up a financial plan. As a result, they need to save and invest even more in later life to make up for lost time, highlighting the importance of receiving financial advice.
Those looking to achieve their own unique life goals like Babatúndé, are offered the chance to have some exclusive help from Bestinvest. The business wants to help someone in the UK achieve a lifelong ambition – which could include walking the plank to conquer a fear of heights like Babatúndé or opening a private pension to save for retirement. Bestinvest knows the nation works hard for its money and they want to help people realise their full potential through the Give Us Your Goals fund.
Bestinvest’s Give Us Your Goals Fund will consist of £20,000, giving four people the chance of winning £5,000 each and a consultation with a Bestinvest Financial Coach who can help the winner not only identify their goals but also how they might save and invest for them. To apply candidates simply need to tell Bestinvest about their goals and what it would mean to achieve them (T&Cs apply).
Babatúndé’s podcast episode is one of a brand new six-part series from Bestinvest titled Give Us Your Goals, hosted by broadcaster Kirsty Gallacher and produced in collaboration with former BBC Radio 5 Live producer Guy Kilty.
